RISK & SAFETY OFFICER
Based in Corowa, but will work across the Federation Council area
- Full-time – 70 hours per fortnight

As a key support to the Manager People and Culture, you will play a vital role in protecting our people and ensuring our operations are consistent across all Council functions.

In this role you will, but not limited to:
- Receive and process WHS Incident Reports, conduct Incident Investigations, in conjunction with appropriate staff, as required.
- Notify StateCover, SafeWork NSW and any other appropriate agency of WHS Incidents as required by legislation, contracts or MOU’s.
- Assist the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee and internal and external auditors as required.
- Conduct incident investigations and handle mandatory reporting to SafeWork NSW and StateCover.
- Perform workplace hazard assessments and support Return to Work coordination for injured staff.
- Help roll out risk management strategies and policies across the entire Council.
- System Management & Coordinate the hazard and incident reporting systems and maintain Risk Registers.
- Advice, training and deliver risk awareness training, provide liability advice for Council events and committees.
- Assist in maintaining insurance cover to ensure all Council risks are properly protected.
- Work with the Assets team to ensure all property and vehicles are valued and insured correctly.
- Assist in managing liability, indemnity, motor vehicle, property and other claims against Federation Council, Councillors and officers, in conjunction with JLT claims officers and legal advisors.
- Help manage insurance claims for liability, property, and motor vehicles alongside legal advisors.
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- Hold a minimum Certificate IV in Risk Management or Work Health and Safety (AQF 4 or above) or related discipline knowledge and experience in risk management or WHS.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing risk management and/or WHS strategies, plans and processes.
- Demonstrated experience in safety management system data entry.
- Proven ability to provide input to the development of policies and procedures
- Hold a General Construction Induction Card (white card) or ability to obtain, and have a current valid Class C drivers’ licence

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $42.19 per hour with progression up to $46.57 per hour dependent upon skills and experience.
